I finally rode my bike to work today! Last night I was feeling ambitious and energetic, so I ran 4.75 miles and then fixed up my bike. I don't know why I had been putting it off -- the bike was actually in really good shape from last year, and it only took me an hour to do the overhaul (and that included the fact that I was watching t.v. at the time). I don't do a complete overhaul when I bring out my bike. I should, but frankly I'm afraid of taking things apart and never getting them put back properly again. Also, there are certain screws on my bike that are really tight and I've already stripped the heads, so I don't want to mess with them any more than necessary.
Anyway, I rode my bike in, using the bike bags I bought for the Johnson Pass trail last year and it was really excellent. I looked at my summer schedule, and there are 26 days including today that I can ride my bike to work. That excludes leave, my work trip in August, and night shifts (because I get really tired at night and do not want to ride my bike). My goal is to ride my bike to work 15 days by Sept 1. That was my goal last year too, and I didn't make it, so I didn't want to increase my goal this year.
Also, yesterday I picked up my rose bush! I had overwintered it at the local nursery, which was surprisingly expensive. But when I picked it up yesterday, it was so worth it. It's in great shape and has lots of buds on it! It made me so happy to pick it up and have it in my yard again. I do not know why I love plants so much, but I think it's because I find caring for them really rewarding. If you give them proper care, they respond and grow and bloom for you. It's not like having a pet, but that's a good thing, because then when you kill them you don't feel as bad as you would if you had killed an animal. :)
