Let's Go Walk That Dinosaur!

Sorry for the internet hiatus, but my friends Heidi and Dan (of Fairbanks cabin fame) were here for just over 2 weeks, and I was so busy I didn’t have time to blog. Plus, I felt it would be a bit rude to leave them sitting around while I typed away. We did a lot of cool things, with pictures, which I will post, but I thought I would start with a picture-less post about one of the more unusual things we did with them: Jurassic Lounge at the Australian Museum.

Every Tuesday evening in the summer and fall, the Australian Museum opens its doors after hours. They have bands and guest artists, and you can cruise around the museum listening to music and checking out the exhibits. All of the regular exhibits were open, but with different lighting, so we got to check out dinosaur bones and skeletons and preserved birds under colored lights. They also had a “silent disco”, which is where you can check out a pair of headphones and rock out to music piped in by a DJ.

We watched some film shorts (aside: why are French films always weird?) and listened to the silent disco, and drank quite a few beers and wines. It was a blast – like Night at the Museum, but for adults. There was also an optional talk – the one we saw was unfortunately boring and a bit insulting, but I know my boss delivered a talk there which would have been much better. (Because he’s funny, not because he’s my boss!)

Anyway, we all had a lot of fun, and I think it’s one of the best things I’ve done in Sydney – and totally the kind of thing that made me want to move here in the first place.

You need to post a picture of the folks wearing capes. And comic book guy, too.

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of the local weirdos.
