The Fievel Arrival

On Saturday, Ethan drove out to Eastern Creek and picked up our little dog from quarantine.  I haven't posted much about quarantine, but over all, it was all right.  I mean, it was doggie prison in the fact that he had a little concrete-floored "cell" on a long row of "cells" (also referred to as a yard), but the quarantine people were really nice.  He had an outdoor area that he could run around in, and a little indoor room with a bed, and they gave him a little toy to play with.  His caretaker knew all about him and was really great with all of the dogs.

That being said, he's definitely happier to be here with us.  The last time we went to visit him, he scratched at the door before we left, obviously wanting to get out.  Now he's here, and very happily sitting on the couch or playing with his toy.  He did not seem to want to go to the bathroom in the bushes in our courtyard, and I thought that we were going to have to walk him all the time, but he's starting to get the hang of it.  He likes standing in the warm sun and seems to have settled right in.

He has a new kennel though, because the old one didn't meet airline criteria.  Today when we came home from a bike ride, we found he had escaped!  I'm not sure how that happened, but we'll have to see if we need to secure the kennel better next time.  Although we haven't found evidence of any bad behavior, I don't know if I'm comfortable with letting him roam the house while we're gone for extended periods -- especially with the nice laminate floors we have here.

All three of us are definitely happy to be back together.  It's amazing how much a little animal can add to your lives.
