Ski Bunny

This is a two-part post about my trip to Canberra/Perisher Valley.

The first weekend in August, I went on a ski trip with my boss and 13 of her friends. I wasn’t sure what to expect, given my Alaskan skiing experiences. Ski trips are always fun with a big group though, and I had a great time.

Here we are! Mount Perisher, which is actually a combination of 3 resorts and rather large, compared to Alyeska (our Alaska resort).

The mountain was pretty rocky, so at times it was kind of interesting for me, an intermediate skier.

For the most part, the groomed runs had fairly good cover, though. They had just had a big dump earlier that week. I can’t imagine what it’s like without a lot of snow.

Chris enjoys the day while Karen straps on her snowboard and Denise gets a headstart.

The views were pretty cool.

Of course, part of the fun is après-ski. Here we are at a fondue restaurant. As you might imagine, this was a big hit with me.

Me and Matt dipping pickles and bread into the fondue.

I went downhill skiing both Saturday and Sunday, but on Monday I decided to rent some cross-country gear. Their cross-country trail was actually really nice.

Denise made the mistake of taking off her skis and stepping into the snow.

Action shot!

Like I said, the trip was really fun, although it made me miss Alaska a little bit. The weather was spectacular, though, which is nice after all the rain we’ve had in Sydney. I am looking forward to going again next year, this time with Ethan in tow.

Who was it that did that at Aleyeska when we were there? Believe it was your Dad? Or, perhaps Abbie?

We had fondue when you were here, right? All you can eat chocolate?

Mom, it was Dad. But Abbie "fell" on the way to help me out, so I had to get Dad out by myself.

Jenna, we did! And it was lovely! Both the fondue and the company, of course. :)

Blue skies! How often do you see that skiing at Alyeska? Course, there were a lot of rocks in those pics, too. Maybe a winter trip to New Zealand for skiing is in order.

There were indeed a lot of rocks. It was like spring skiing, both the good parts and the bad.
