Whinging (parenthetically)

Just a quick note to let you all know what's going on in my head, although I'm posting from work and I really shouldn't be. (I got a bad performance review that said my work ethic is inconsistent. Which, sadly, is true. So I've been trying REALLY hard not to goof off on the internet too much. But I miss my internet friends. Anyway.)

I am feeling kind of down about school right now. I'm trying hard not to complain about my legal class (and not succeeding, thanks Ethan for being patient with me) but it's boring and not very relevant to my job. My statistics class is not boring and very relevant, but it has a high workload AND since we're going to New Zealand at the end of November that means I'll have to finish all my homeworks and my take-home final before Thanksgiving. So I'm a little stressed about that.

But the big thing is that up until now, I had been counting on graduating in Dec 2009. Original plans were May 2009, until I realized that there was no fucking way I could take 3 classes a semester and not go crazy, so I pushed graduation back. Except that now, my school is not offering one of my required classes next spring (and it's a spring class). I really don't want to push graduation until 2010 for one stupid class. Plus, this is a class I don't want to substitute for something else (if I can even work that out with my advisor), because I thought it was going to be relevant and useful (unlike Legal, which makes me feel like I just lit $1000 on fire).

So I'm frustrated. And I feel disenfranchised by my school, who didn't tell me that they were only offering this class every other year. But I don't want to quit, because then I'll really feel like a loser who wasted a lot of time, effort, and money.

Bah. School sucks.

hiya--just a little note to let you know that you are not the only one who has ever received a review indicating "inconsistent work ethic." If we're brilliant enough to get the job done in less time than other people, we should be congratulated, not expected to then tackle nonsense work just to look busy! But I digress...good luck with the school dilemma. Is there any way you could do an independent study in place of the class they aren't offering? Maybe the prof who normally teaches it would be willing to do that? Just a thought...I plan on liberally using independent study courses to get through my degree program. :)
