Up to Date

I thought I might do a little update post, just for fun. Also, there’s a lot of little everyday stuff that goes on that I don’t really cover in the blog all that much. So here’s what I’m up to:

Work: Finishing up at the RFS. I have quite a few projects I’m going to have to hand over to the next guy, and I really don't want to leave him in a mess. Hopefully he isn't totally confused by everything I'm leaving him.  I am about ready to be done with this commute, though!  Only one more week of commuting, then I'll be teaching a course in north Sydney, and then back to normal!

Garden: I’ve gotten my little plot all organized. I put in some bricks so that I can work in the middle of the plot without trodding on plants, and I bought a little bird statue which I’ve set up in the corner. My fellow gardener was giving me a hard time about decorating my plot, and I told him “Good thing it’s not your plot then, huh?” :D

Trips: I haz them planned. For one, Cairns and Darwin, with Ethan’s mom, including the Great Barrier Reef! Woot! Also, a trip to Melbourne to check it out and hang out with our good friend Pete, who used to work in the Sydney office. I still miss him. He’s a pretty fun guy. And this topic brings up my next thing:

Japanese: I’m learning it, in preparation for our Feb 2012 Japan ski trip! Sugoi desune!?! You may remember I started learning Japanese in 2005 (holy crap, that was a long time ago), but quit due to the ridiculous attendance policy at UAA. Now I’m determined to learn enough to get us around and enjoy Japan, instead of being like the idiot author of Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven, which brings me to my next topic:

Books/Reading: Let me tell you, since I don’t have t.v., I’ve been getting so much done and reading so many books! I’ve just finished Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen) and am now onto Water for Elephants. My goal for this year was 24 books, but at this rate, I think I should have made it 36. I love to read! I’ll post the books I think are worth sharing to Facebook, so you Facebookers can catch up. And for the rest of you – you’ll just have to check out my Goodreads feed on the side to see what I’m reading.

That’s it for now, which is a lot, but I don’t want to bore you anymore. Thanks for reading this far. I know in the not-too-far future I’ll have some news of a nephew’s arrival, a visit from my mother-in-law, and our Melbourne trip!

hooray for no TV! spent many years in that condition and recommend it. Sue and I might go that way, stay tuned.

PS, reading "water for elephants" might have a lot about elephant behavior? if so it may be helpful with the Tarantula trivia question [which is back in your old post about Spiders]

Dad, I decided 36 might be too many, so I went for 30. But it's going well.

Kelly, totally! I'm really looking forward to it!

Uncle Carl -- I read Water for Elephants, but haven't figured out how an elephant is like a tarantula. Care to enlighten me?

Go to my blog for the answer to the Tarantula trivia question. I have concealed it there in case Forrest in particular might know the answer and try to guess first.
