Thoreau says goodbye, Hello diet!

So, just as I was about to write a post titled "When do you call it quits?" (about Mr. Thoreau, of course), I got a comment from an Anon who, in summary, said: life is short; if you don't like the book, stop reading. How timely. I will say that I have gotten into a more interesting, less posery portion of the book. But I think my Anon is right; it is probably time for Mr. Thoreau to go back to book heaven (a.k.a. the library). I guess I will continue reading it until it comes up for renewal (maybe a week now?) and call it quits.

Okay, so that's enough Thoreau. What else is going on in my life? For one, I'm on a diet. Saying this is always interesting to me, because the typical response I get is "you don't need to be on a diet!" Well, thanks for the compliment, but I do. I gained about 15 lbs all told since I got married, due to a lot of excuses. Even more importantly, my exercise regimen has fallen off the wagon since grad school. So this isn't about me thinking I'm huge cow or anything -- it's about turning the tide and living a healthier lifestyle. Anyway, I've lost about 7 lbs so far, so I'm halfway there. And more importantly, I'm finding time to exercise again and I already feel like I'm in better shape. So that's a big plus!

This brings me to my next bit of "news": I think I might train for a triathlon again this spring. Although they are kind of a pain, I need something to focus on, because so far my out-of-state job hunt hasn't been going well. Plus, it will help me achieve my fitness goals. My training plan will start March 1st, but I have been doing some running and swimming already. So I think I'm on the right track.

That's it for now! I will try to think up some more interesting posts for the weeks ahead.

Ben cousin here, hello. My 2 cents, yes quit the book if you have to but in my experience there is something to be gained by reading it to understand the man and his point of view. Not that it is the "Truth" but as perspective to the time and place. Also, I find that it is helpful to have read these books as a base to view other movements. Often things are a reaction to what others have done and understand this helps understand where we are now. For what it's worth. Good luck on the diet, BTW.
