More Thoreau

Quote of the day from Henry David Thoreau:

"As for the Pyramids, there is nothing to wonder at in them so much as the fact that so many men could be found degraded enough to spend their lives constructing a tomb for some ambitious booby, whom it would have been wiser and manlier to have drowned in the Nile, and then given his body to the dogs."

I like how he called the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt "ambitious boob[ies]". No respect for royalty here.

The book is proceeding smashingly. As in, I kind of want to smash my head against the wall. I'm on page 58 of 267. But I am determined. I will finish it, or die trying! So if you don't hear from me again, you'll know it was that I died of boredom.

I'm impressed! I would have given up about 50 pages ago...
