Musings

I've been doing some thinking about my blog and why I haven't felt much like posting lately. I haven't come to any solid conclusions, but things I have been considering are 1) who my readers are 2) who I want them to be 3) what I want my blog to be about and 4) new ways to add interest. I have been considering a switch to a more private blog (like livejournal, or friends-only), but I think for now I will keep it here, since most of my readers do not have lj accounts, and I don't want to have a required sign in.

Along with this, I've been thinking about my life -- what I want to get out of life, what I want to contribute, etc. I've been a little down lately, and I'm thinking I need to find more purpose. I don't want to start any volunteer activities right now, because I expect school to be pretty busy this fall, but I'm going to be thinking about what I want to do after I'm done with school. I feel like I need to contribute more.

More mundane stuff: I'm currently listening to a CD Ethan bought for me that I like. It's The Shepard's Dog, by Iron and Wine. It's pretty folky, but I've been getting into more of that lately. He was worried it was too "breathy" for me, because I've complained about John Mayer's singing in the past, but it's nothing like John Mayer. So I like it.

I plan to post some more pictures soon -- I have a fun one from a hike with Fievel, and I also want to show off my garden. My vegetable garden is doing okay this year; I'm glad I started small. I'm not sure the onions I planted are ever going to turn out, but the zucchini is doing okay and the carrots are sprouting. This is the first year I've had a vegetable garden, so I figure it's a learning experience.

So that's it for now. I'll keep thinking, and if I decide to make my blog friends only, I'll let you know. :)

Urgh, it keeps eating my comments. I think you should jump over to LJ.

I need to check that CD out too. I have listening to a little more folk music lately.

I hear you on the private blog thing. livejournal might be the best way to keep a private blog, but it can also be as public as you like (like mine for instance). my blog used to be a lot more personal too. about my feelings instead of my actions. there are many guesses to why that's changed.

of course a private blog is often a real PITA to anyone that's not on that same blogging platform. but also, on LJ, you can have private and public entries. so you can restrict viewing to different posts if you'd like. IMO all blog platforms are pretty much the same though. you write some text, and it gets published on a web site. some people get a little crazy about what they think their blog is and move it around to different sites depending on what other blogs people have seen on those other sites. anyway.

I like iron and wine, except some of his lyrics are christian, which really turns me off. odd, since i'm okay with reggae music, which is often very religious.

Aaron, you bring up a good point about being able to have open posts and closed posts on lj. I think blogger is either friends-only or open. Your comment about moving around to different sites depending on other blogs is a little obtuse for me, so I'll just skip that.

Iron and Wine is Christian? I had no idea. I should pay more attention to the lyrics.

I had no idea about the Christian lyrics, either! I just like the peacefulness, especially when driving (Iron and Wine + tree-lined rural roads = loveliness).

There's a lot of people you dig on LJ. Actually I have to make a special trip to blogger for yours, not that I mind. Feel free to hop around...

I haven't been posting much lately either. Mostly because I feel like I'm in a rut, and am not doing anything exciting in my life right now. For what it's worth, I find your blog is interesting and enjoyable to read.
