Battle of the Sexes: Thelma and Louise vs. Reservoir Dogs

E and I got in an argument tonight about, of all things, chick flicks. I was saying he probably wouldn't like The Sound of Music because it's pretty cheesy and he got surprisingly mad. He said that he likes some cheesy stuff and why does a movie with emotional content have to be a chick flick anyway?

I guess I hit a nerve or something, because I already told him earlier this week that I didn't think he would like Mona Lisa Smile for basically the same reason. But I really don't see him liking either movie. Anyway, I get slightly embarassed by even asking him to watch a girly movie because when he doesn't like a movie, he makes a really big deal about it. Then I would feel bad for making him watch it.

He brought up a good point, though. What exactly makes a "chick flick"? I guess in a way he's right, if a movie is a drama, I tend to categorize it as a chick flick. Or a romantic comedy. That's a chick flick, right there. I guess it also depends on the main characters--if it's a drama about 2 dudes, it's not a chick flick. Case in point: Field of Dreams. God, I hated that movie. But generally, when I think of movies men like I think of comedies, action films, horror or maybe suspense.

Okay, I was going to list a bunch of movies and classify them as guy vs. girl, but it turned out to be harder than I thought. So I guess my classifications aren't so well defined. But I'm determined to make a list of movies, so here are some romantic-ish movies that dudes like: The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, The Saint, There's Something About Mary...uh...dang, I can't think of any more!

Anyway, I don't know why E's making such a big deal about it. After all, does he really want to see Mona Lisa Smile or The Sound of Music that bad?
